In the spotlight this week is Atlanta local boy, Donald Young Jr.!
Donald currently ranks 56th in the world and at only 25 still has far to go, especially with a New Year’s resolution of ‘making the most of his time’, which considering his regime would put most of us to shame!
Donald’s past accomplishments stretch far and wide, including turning pro at just 15, winning the Junior Australian Open, Junior Wimbledon and becoming the only African-American to be ranked number one junior in the world. Donald set the bar high for himself growing up by idolizing Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods for their confidence and will to win. When asked what advice he would offer to young athletes, he told us ‘never stop growing and learning, remember you can always learn and improve, remain coachable.’
In 2011, Donald reached new heights beating Andy Murray and advancing to the Washington D.C. semifinals. His most memorable match to date is the win over Stan Wawrinka, advancing him to the 4th Round of the US Open. But when asked about his biggest accomplishment in life, Donald tells us it was when he got the opportunity to represent the U.S. in the London Olympics 2012!
Its hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Donald though - last year he was given a warning by the umpire for saying “Son of a biscuit”… was he upset, well not really… “it was weird because I didn’t think twice about saying it and I clearly said biscuit but afterward it was very funny.” Well let’s hope that’s as difficult as life gets for him!
