Have you ever wondered which shoe brand has the most NBA Season MVP titles? You probably assume Nike, right? But what brands were Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and others wearing. And most recently Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors was named 60th Most Valuable Player representing Under Armour. So let’s see from the first season in 1955-1956 to the latest 2014-2015 which brand has won the most MVP titles.

A chart showing which shoe brands have the most sponsored athletes that have won NBA MVP awards.

According to our research out of 60 NBA Season MVP’s, Converse has won 22 (36.7%) followed by Nike 19 (31.7%), Adidas 13 (21.7%), LA Gear 3 (5%), Reebok 2 (3.3%) and Under Armour 1 (1.7%).

Back in the day, Converse were represented by some of the most powerful names such as Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Julius Erving and Larry Bird. Despite Converse not winning anything since 1990, they still maintain first place with 22 Season MVP titles.

Nike has been always one of the top brands in the sport industry and in the last 10 years Nike has been especially huge thanks to LeBron James’ 4 MVP titles and with Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. Nike is definitely not done – Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, LaMarcus Aldridge are just a few names who we predict will be competing for the future MVPs. This Nike statistic includes the Jordan 5 Brand, which it owns. Even a decade after Michael Jordan retired, Jordan remains popular, currently worn by 39 players in the NBA.

Adidas comes in third, but most of its successes were made during Kareem Abdul-Jabbar era with 6 MVP awards. Adidas is ready to compete again thanks to signing a $200 million deal with Houston Rockets superstar James Harden who will definitely keep featuring in the race for MVP.

By 2020, Nike should have overtaken Converse, but it will be interesting to see how close Adidas can keep in the race. And Under Armour – well we know they have ambition and with their bet on Stephen Curry paying off, I am sure they are already planning their next MVP!
